A Few Minutes with Some of Our Track Stars

PARCC testing postponed in NJ schools due to technical difficulties

If you’re a student at HFMS, or a student of an NJ school in general, you probably know about the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) test. It is a new standardized test taken primarily through the computer. It was designed to replace the written-only NJ ASK (New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge).

The risk you take in anything computer related is the risk of a technical failure. Today, many schools, including our own, made special preparations for students to take the PARCC. However, upon attempting to log into the test, students and teachers were met with loads of technical issues and errors. Two weeks of testing, planned months before, now has to be pushed a day back due to the vendor, Pearson, having technical difficulties.

Pearson is aware of the issue, and has sent emails to all affected schools. These issues are contained within the state of New Jersey; no other states have reported having issues as of yet.

Many people feel the PARCC test needs some work and should have waited to be rolled out. The more widespread release is helping them find and iron out bugs, however.

The PARCC is a new test, so issues will happen (although that does not make them acceptable). Hopefully end users of the test will do their part to report any issues to Pearson in an effort to fix them.

Buzz Cam

We hope you enjoy our latest video, a new feature on our website called the Buzz Cam. In Buzz Cam, members of Hornets Online go around the school and ask fellow students trivia questions. If you have any feedback, please use the contact form (link on this website’s header). It was recorded in January, and took us a while to edit and post due to it being our first of its’ kind.

Lion King Jr. Comes to Life

There is a lot of things that are happening to prepare for Lion King Jr. that some kids may or may not know about. We went behind the scenes with Mrs. Albrecht to see what her art club members are up to for the Lion King Jr. Here is what we found out.

There are two Simba’s in this play there will be a young one and a old one. The young one is David Israel and the old one is Dylan Steele. The two Simba’s will be wearing a long sleeve shirt and a collared piece with a wide sash on the  stomach. They will also be wearing short pants. The colors will be nudes like brown, yellow, tan, and orange.

We also found out that it takes Mrs. Albrect 6-15 hours to hot glue foam together to make the headpieces for the characters. That includes painting and doing all of the little details. She makes the costumes out of fabric and foam materials. The costumes look great so far and we can’t wait to see the final product at the play.

Hey guys and gals! I am here to inform! What, might you ask, am I informing you about? Well, It’s the Avengers! (Well you probably guessed that from the title but I wasn’t too sure.) Let us begin by listing them shall we?

Here they are!

  • Iron Man
  • Captain America
  • Thor
  • Black Widow
  • Deadpool (Yeah I was shocked too)
  • Hawkeye
  • Vision
  • Black Panther
  • Ant-Man
  • Hulk
  • Bruce Banner (I know that Hulk and him are the same person but I couldn’t help it!)
  • Wasp
  • Spider Man

And there’s probably more but these are my favorites.  So yeah…How ’bout I tell you a little about these heroes?

They basically protect New York and the world from a bunch of baddies. Not all of them go on missions though. Like Bruce (Or Hulk). He does all that science stuff with Iron Man. And Black Panther hasn’t shown up in a while. Then there’s Deadpool and he is…well..he’s Deadpool. That’s all I have to describe them though…Except that Stan Lee created the comic that is now a flourishing fan base. (All rights reserved to the great Stan Lee)

Hoped you enjoyed this little insider on the Avengers. Heres Jay signing off!
